1921 Green Street is located near the center of the Spring Garden Historic District in Philadelphia on the prominent corner of 19th and Green Streets. It is a four-story condominium building with ten units – one of which is designated to be affordable – with private roof decks for the units at the top floor. Although the site itself is flat, the project is situated at the edge of a gentle hill and many of the upper units have pristine views of the Center City skyline. Others have quaint views of the sought-after historic neighborhood in which the building sits.
The design is a modern response to the adjacent historical context of the neighborhood. Features include a cast stone base with a rich red brick façade above that is vertically portioned by continuous limestone bands and horizontally with window groupings that emulate the patterning, scale, and proportions of the adjacent neighborhood. The building is topped with a deep cornice that aligns with the existing Green Street cornice line. The design approach for this project was careful to make a considerate and thoughtful attempt to emulate but not replicate any of the historic buildings that surround it.
