Sitting at the gateway to the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia and across from Philadelphia landmark The Fillmore, 956 Frankford Avenue responds to its urban context in numerous ways. The corner of the site is an obtuse angle headed down Richmond Street which proved to be a perfect opportunity to provide a beautifully detailed rounded brick corner. The area is a mix of structures of varying heights, here the 5th floor was setback in black metal to keep the scale of the project appropriate to its immediate neighbors. The main 4 story, tan brick facade is a large regular brick grid infilled with a varying pattern of large windows. The brick is perfectly coursed with a mix of traditional running bond and stacked bond soldier coursing. In addition to residential units the 5th floor has a common lounge and a large outdoor terrace with skyline and bridge views. Our goal was to create a contextual but yet still modern addition to the neighborhood.
